New Baby Photo Shoot

Hi Friends! I hope your Labor Day weekend went well. I haven't done much photography lately except for this photo shoot of a beautiful little baby girl.

It was an awesome challenge as I have only done this once before. And I did my previous baby shots in available light.

My blogging buddy, Tammy, of Simple Southern Happiness, has been passionate about learning  new born photography. She has been reading everything she can get her hands on, and watching lots of video how-to's on You Tube.

She has been working with lights on her macro photography so she was ahead of the game.

Setting up the lights and the backdrop took quite a bit of time so you need to block out some time. Of course the baby was with her mother until we were set up.

Babies do not always cooperate with direction. LOL You just have to go with the moment and be sensitive to their mood. Shoot a ton of pictures and maybe you might get something you can keep.

We combined our props; headbands with feathers, flowers, tutus, pearls and wreaths stacked to look like a nest and  used a soft white throw for the background.

Truthfully, when I left their house, I didn't know if I had gotten anything. It was a sinking feeling to have spent 4 hours, taking up a mother's time, and maybe having nothing to show for it.

But God was with me on this, I know. And I did get some nice shots after all.

Thanks for visiting me!

Peace and love of Jesus Christ be with you today and always!

You did well, especially with an older baby. Newborns are supposedly easiest to shoot in their first week of life while still somewhat sleepy and more posable.
Must have been quite a learning curve.

I love the shots of the baby in the nest! And the one with the pink headband and white blanket with her name in pink. I would be so nervous to do this kind of work; I admire your determination and can see that a lot of effort went into it. Congrats!

I meant to ask you what lens you used?

Charlotte,
You are just as amazing! As I commented on Tammy's - the lighting was perfect. It's not glaring, so Rachael isn't squinting. Soft shadows and such a beautiful face that you were able to capture and smile!
So much fun!! Such a reward when you were able to check the photos out! Beautiful!
