Venting - Are we now in a disposible world?

Dyson Ball

Hi Sweetie! I know that I posted a while back how much I hate vacuuming but, alas, I can't find it.

Anyway, I was complaining about the bulky Dyson that I had at the time. It was like dragging a dead pig around the room.

Enough was enough. Although the machine still worked, I gave it to my daughter and I bought a popular vacuum by a famous manufacturer that starts with an "H".

It was lightweight and soo easy to maneuver but it burnt out after about 4 months. Apparently the belt slipped and the inside melted. So I trotted on over to WalMart to get my money back.

I still liked the product so went online again and ordered another. Maybe I had a lemon. The next one should be fine.

After a week, and hairballs like tumbleweeds around the house, my new vacuum finally arrived. I quickly took it out of the bag and assembled the handle and turned it on.

SCREEEEEChhhhhhh! What is that sound coming from this vacuum? I called the toll free number for H thinking that they could walk me through the problem. No tech support at all. They just told me to take it back. Arrrrrrggggg! No sympathy...nothing.

After lugging the second vacuum back in a week, I headed on over to Costco and bought a Dyson Ball (Animal). And I love it...or as much as you can love a vacuum cleaner, that is.

And ....they have a wonderful tech support. If I have any problem with it, they will walk me through it. With LIVE people! LOL

There is  popular coffee machine that starts with "K" that I could ramble on about as well. But for another time.

Thanks for letting me vent!

Hi Charlotte, I know what you're talking about. The phrase "they don't make 'em like they used to" has never been more true than it is today.

You are right - NOTHING is made to last like they used to be!

I hear you! It amazes me how things are supposed to be so much more advanced now but nothing lasts as long. I went through one of those "H's and another popular brand years ago and then finally bought an Electrolux. I've had it almost twenty years now and it still works fantastic. Great customer service, too. I'm glad you finally found one you like!

It does seem like the 'pride' in the quality of their products has given way to mass production and sales. Somethimes it just wears you out trying to get one that works! Like you, I've made some trips back and forth for exchanges. They don't mind, but gas is expensive. Appliances wear out fast, expecially stoves, fridges and washer and dryers. And they're so high! Thanks for letting me share.

Love our Dyson ball vac. We had the H brand and the DD brand before that. None could keep up with the level of dog hair in our house. Glad you splurged. You won't regret it!

Definitely not a good experience, Charlotte! :-(

I too had a Dyson, and although it worked like no other, it really was way too heavy to lug around.

Happy weekend to you!

Hello Charlotte,
I have a heavy hoover that Danny uses once a week. I have to admit that it's about 6 or7 years old. Since Danny is "retired", he does the vacuuming. I'll have to remember this when ours dies!! Expcially since you anything mechanical never lasts forever!!
Take care and stay warm!

We have 2 Dysons -- one of the originals that is well over 10 years old and still going strong and the cordless, which is my lifesaver with all the tile in our home. But you know, it is okay to vent sometimes...!

Thanks so much for visiting my blog and commenting on our new door and my wreath and bun my,.

Dyson is a favorite around here; still have and use my Electrolux but it doesn't work like a Dyson. But the answer to your question is "yes" and it is a terrible thing. Everything is disposable, appliances, vehicles, feelings and worse, people. How does God's great heart stand it?

Vacuums are a huge deal!!! They have to be awesome!

Too bad you had such a hassle!

I am a Dyson fan too. Life with three dogs while living in the dustiest place on earth requires a great vacuum and at $399 it better not be dissposible.
