What about Christmas?

For the last two weeks, there has been an emphasis on Halloween on the new ABC show, The Chew. And I mean everyday. Please don't misunderstand me. I like to have fun as much as the next person. And I don't really see harm in children going around trick or treating. But I wonder how The Chew will handle Christmas. It is not politically correct to use the J word anymore. (Jesus Christ) How did this come about...a rhetorical question!
My family has been in this United States at least since the 1700's and have always worshiped God, the Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit. What could possibly be offensive in that?

Go here for The Chew

When Father John gave a homily on All Hallows Eve, another name for Halloween, I began to wonder about the origin of the holiday. It apparently began as a Pagan celebration called Samhain.

When Christianity spread to Europe, the Pope was displeased with the people celebrating this pagan holiday so he combined it with All Saints Day on November 1, a holy day of obligation. At that time the children and adults would dress as saints on October 31, All Hallows Eve.
Halloween  has really become a money maker for retailers who sell spooky decorations and costumes. While these are being sold in late September, Thanksgiving and "Holiday" items also line the store aisles. We are allowed to say "Happy Halloween" and " Happy Thanksgiving" but not "Merry Christmas"?? I say "Bah Humbug" to that!

Just my two cents.

May the Lord, Jesus, bless you with peace and joy today!

Christmas just is not the same to most people. Church and Christ birth has very little to do with it any more. Presents and retail has seen to that. It is sad that things have come down to selling mercandise. What about good old family values. Maybe we need a few Tiny Tim moments. Thanks, Richard from My Old Historic House.

Hello Charlotte! Interesting thought about Halloween!

Thanks for the visit.
About GIMP, I meant I make my own design for my wall art using GIMP editing software. Basically, GIMP is like a Photoshop but free! I hope I answered your question right

I agree with you...another thing that irks me, these persons who don't believe in Christmas are more than happy to have the day off as a paid holiday. May God bless you. Thanks for your testimony.

Wonderful, Charlotte! I too, get very aggravated about how Christians must muzzle their mouths when it comes to anything about Jesus or Christianity. I have even found myself worried I might "offend" someone if I say something on my blog - then I decided that if I offend them, then they aren't a follower I want anyway! Good for you! I've just become your latest follower! And thanks too, for the comment on my buffet. Glad you liked it! :)

You know, I find it so hypocritical that all the people yelling tolerance for this or that have zero tolerance for Christianity. And it makes my blood boil.

Another peeve I have is putting out Christmas decorations in July. Then while the merchants make money off me, they then wish me a "Happy Holiday". Grrrr.... I usually reply with a MERRY CHRISTMAS! and a big smile. :)
