In the most recent National Geographic Magazine, there is a wonderful article on the Ural Owl. Their wing span is four feet and they have very sharp talons.
The photos were taken by Sven Zacek, a native Estonian, where he discovered this lovely
creature. Aren't they precious! I immediately fell in love. The mothers have a reputation for clobbering the skulls of any intruder to her territory. Some believe the owls "may symbolize the souls of the dead or the wisdom of the gods." (from the article)

How gorgeous! We get National Geographic, and it's always been one of my favorite magazines, but I rarely take time to read them. You've inspired me to go find the one with this owl! Thanks for sharing!

These are lovely pictures. The owl always reminds me of my daughter, who is getting her Ph.D. very soon. Have you ever heard of The Wise Old Owl quote? I just love it.
